The research firm Canalys reported that the operating system Android of Google has overtaken Symbian and has become the most popular database platform in 2010, as millions of Smartphone use it today.
Worldwide sales of phones Android in the fourth quarter of 2010 was 33.3 million, compared to Symbian which was 31 million. Apple is in third place with just 16.2 million, followed by RIM with 14.6 million and Microsoft with 3.1 million devices sold.
In general, the global smartphone market grew 89% compared to the fourth quarter of 2009, more than 100 million units sold in the last quarter of 2010.
Android has been adopted by manufacturers such as LG, Samsung, Acer and HTC, all of them have experienced great results with devices based on this platform.
Nokia recently reported that sales of smartphones are comparatively weak, and as a result the company strives to transform its platform Symbian in a worthy competitor Apple iOS and Google Android.
