What is USB?

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. It is commonly known as a specification which is used to communicate between a host controller (normally laptops or personal computers) and devices. Ajay Bhatt is the name behind this invention who actually invent this specification when he was working with the technology giant Intel tm. It is considered a very useful invention.

The intention behind inventing Universal Serial Bus (USB) was to get rid of several well-known parallel and serial ports. Several peripherals of the personal computers and laptops can be connected with the help of USB in which external hard drives, flash drives, personal media players, printers, digital cameras, keyboards and mice are also included. Currently most of the above mentioned devices are using USB as their standard method of connecting with laptops or personal computers.

USB was actually invented with an intention to use with the personal computers but the usage of this specification has become a normal practice on several other famous devices like video game consoles, PDAs and SmartPhones. It is also used being a power cord between an AC adapter which is normally plugged into the wall plugs (like for charging purpose) and a device.

As per the statistics of year end 2008, 2 billion was the estimated per year figure which was noted against the sale of USB devices. It is said that to date estimated overall sale of Universal Serial Bus (USB) has reached to a figure of 6 billion. It clearly shows that how much popularity is being earned by this invention of Ajay Bhatt.
