Starting up the Windows explorer
For Windows XP, what you need to do is to click the Start button on the task bar, select Programs > Accessories and then the Windows explorer, whereas for the Windows 7 or Vista, what you need to do is to click up on the logo of Windows on the task bar and then click on Computer from the very menu that you can see now.
What you can find in Windows Explorer
Within the explorer window that opens, you will find Folders as well as files of all sorts residing in on your computer in several of the drives that as well show in on your Windows explorer. You can open up a single drive and see its contents in the form of Files and folders. Folders are the holders of the files that you can expand further to explore the files contained therein.

There are two section parts of the windows explorer. The left one showing the main categories in the form of Drives and folders which are further expandable whereas the right one shows the expanded extract of those drives and folders.
