By default, the Windows XP Start menu displays the 10 programs you use most often. You can easily increase that number to 30 and display software in the Start menu.
Click the right mouse button Start and click Properties.
Click Personalize.
Increase the value of the option Number of programs in the Start menu ( until 30).
Select the option to pass Small icon if you do not want your Start menu take up the entire screen .
Then press twice OK.
