95.5 The Beat Atlanta is ending hip-hop and music programming after 11 years. 95.5 The Beat will no longer be where hip-hop lives and modern day hit radio plays. On Monday, WSB Radio VP/Market Manager Dan Kearney confirmed that 95.5 will now start to just simulcast News and talk radio from 750/WSB-AM.
But there is good news. “The good news is… 95.5 FM The BEAT is not going away completely! You can still listen to 95.5 FM The BEAT’s top rhythmic hits online at through our website at www.9555thebeat.com . Just click on “Listen Live.” And for those listeners who own HD radios, simply tune your HD radio to 97.1 HD2 to hear your favorite hits. and on HD Radio at 97.1 HD2. Just click on “Listen Live”.”
Executives say the switch will bring WSB AM programming to more audiences on an FM channel. It may also improve the bottom line. But the official statement reads “The decision to simulcast our 24-hour news/talk format will offer valuable news and talk radio content to a wider listening audience, while affording us the opportunity to continue our role as a strong, valued community leader. “
“I want to thank our loyal listeners and advertisers for their support of the station over the last several years. We have enjoyed serving the Atlanta community with 95.5 FM The BEAT and bringing you the top rhythmic hits of today.”
